Whether by land or air travel, Canada requires that you have proof of at least two vaccinations and a passport. You are also required to register ahead of time via the “ArriveCan” app or website. On the app at least, you will use your phone to upload a photo of the passport and vaccination card. BE SURE and complete ALL the information until it gives you an “entrance code” that will be required by customs.
Returning to the USA:
When returning by land, you only need a your passport and vaccination. I am not sure if the rules for returning to other countries are the same, but if you are coming back to the US by air, currently the airlines will require a negative Covid test within 1 day of travel. This means that if you are flying back on Sunday, you have to find a test within 24 hours of your flight. Thankfully, you can get tested at the Edmonton airport via “NUMI health” if you get to the airport early enough before your flight. You have to make an appointment for a “COVID antigen” test (rapid), but the hours are Monday-Sunday 5am to 7pm which covers most of the departure times. The cost is $59.
So if it wasn’t already stressful enough to get to your flight on time, go through security, check bags, and find your terminal, just add one more thing to the list. There may be some places locally near our hotel that would provide the same service, but make sure there is solid documentation to support the test. I’m thinking it will all be worth it.
